Aircraft Rental - Hobbs, Wet, Insured?

When you shop around for airplane rentals, be careful to compare apple to apples. Often aircraft are rented Wet. This means aviation fuel (avgas) and oil are included in the rental price. Due to wild fluctuation in fuel prices, some aircraft rentals are priced Dry. This means you pay a base price, plus the additional cost of fuel. Fuel usage is usually based on a given rate of fuel burn and not what you actually used. So you won't save any money by going slow. In a typical Cessna 172 airplane, you will burn approximately 8 gallons per hour, if fuel is $4.50 per gallon, that comes out to be an additional $36 on top of the Dry rental price.
